NORTH COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, PA — A man died late last week from injuries he suffered after trying to light a cigarette while he was using a medical oxygen machine.

The incident occurred around 8:15 in the morning on June 17 at a home on Mt. Zion Avenue in North Coventry Township, which is located in Chester County just over the Montgomery County line from Pottstown Borough.

Police say that officers were dispatched to the home after it was reported that someone had been injured by fire from a medical oxygen generator.

Officers arrived on scene to find emergency medical personnel from Goodwill Ambulance attempting to revive the male victim, whose name and age was not given.

Police said they were told that the victim was attempting to light a cigarette while wearing a nasal cannula for oxygen, causing an oxygen induced flame that gravely injured the man.

The victim was taken to Pottstown Hospital Tower Health by paramedics.

Police said they were notified later that morning by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office that the victim had died from his injuries.
